The races are set for November’s local elections. Twenty-five candidates qualified to run for office in seven municipalities. There are contested races in Baldwin, Demorest and Tallulah Falls.
It promises to be an interesting political season in Demorest where four people are running for two open at-large seats. Demorest Council Incumbents Donnie Bennett and John Popham are up for reelection. They face opposition from former councilwoman Florence Wikle and Rebecca Shedd. Demorest voters will also decide the fate of two liquor referendums.
Campaigning in Tallulah Falls is already underway, as businessman Dan Hayes seeks to unseat long-time Mayor Carl Seaman. Incumbent Tallulah Falls council members Jimmy Franklin and Bill Coldren face opposition for their at-large seats from Teri Dobbs.
And in Baldwin, Post 1 council member Dustin Mealor will try to fend off a challenge by Ray Holcomb while Post 2 council member Theron Ayers faces opposition from Robert Bohannon. Baldwin Post 3 council member Joe Elam is running unopposed.
Elections will be held November 3, 2015.
