Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School started the first day of the 2021-2022 school year on Wednesday, August 25, ushering in a historic year with record enrollment and a new Early Learning Center.
For the second consecutive year, Rabun Gap is serving more students than ever from the local area and around the world. On Opening Day, the School welcomed 673 students in PreK through 12th grade. There are 52 countries and 15 states represented in the student body. Seven new countries were added to Rabun Gap’s global community including Australia, Azerbaijan, Belize, France, Iceland, St. Martin, and Uruguay.
Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School continues its founding mission to deliver premier educational opportunities across the local region. This year, 63% of students are local to North Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, with 55 students from Habersham County. This year’s senior class will be the largest in school history with 106 students.
The 2021-2022 academic year also marks the opening of Rabun Gap’s new Early Learning Center and the addition of a half-day program for three-year-olds. The Early Learning Center, housed in the Evelyne Sheats Lower School, provides a dedicated space for the School’s youngest students aged 3-5. There are 29 students enrolled in the Early Learning Program.
“The past two years have been ones of tremendous growth for our school. We are blessed to have such a talented community led by an incredible senior class this year,” said Head of School Jeff Miles. “Energy is high on campus as we continue to lead the way as one of the top independent schools in the country.”
Students and teachers hit the ground running on Wednesday and the campus was buzzing with activity.
Rabun Gap has launched a new engaged, applied learning K-12 curriculum with a primary focus to create hands-on learning opportunities with real-world projects and partnerships with local and national organizations. Fall athletics are already underway, and preparations have begun for the 20th anniversary Cirque show.
“There is so much to celebrate at Rabun Gap,” said Miles. “We are excited for another enriching year together.”
