A Rabun County driver was killed Monday morning in a subcompact car crash with a tractor-trailer. The Georgia State Patrol identified the deceased driver as Francis P. Hanrahan, 58, of Rabun Gap.
Hanrahan was driving a Ford Fiesta south on GA 15/US 441 near Old 441 north of Clayton when the accident occurred. Around 9:40 a.m., troopers say Hanrahan traveled into the northbound lane “for unknown reasons.”
The car crossed over the centerline rumble strips and struck the left side of a northbound Peterbilt AA. The truck was driven by Brian L. Doyle, 46, of Oneida, Tennessee.
Hanrahan was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident report states Doyle sustained possible minor injuries but was not transported to the hospital.
The crash disabled both vehicles. It shut down the highway near the crash site for approximately four hours as troopers investigated the crash and crews cleared the wreckage. The road reopened just before 2 p.m. Monday.
