Construction crews are building a quarantine space for COVID-19 patients in Monroe County. The facility, located on the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC) campus, will be used for people who test positive for COVID-19 but are unable to self-isolate.

The quarantine space will be able to accommodate twenty temporary housing units. No patients are currently located at the facility.

Governor Brian Kemp announced the construction project along with officials from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) and Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH).

“This is one of many measures that we’re taking to prepare for any scenario,” says Kemp.

A statement from the governor’s office says Monroe County is working with GEMA and GPSTC officials to ensure the facility will meet the needs of potential patients while also protecting the health and safety of Monroe County residents.

“All necessary precautions will be taken when moving and placing individuals at the facility,” the governor’s office says.
