Qualifying opens for Clarkesville City Council Special Election

Qualifying is now open for the March 21 Clarkesville City Council Special Election.

The qualifying period opened at 8:30 a.m. Monday, January 30, and continues daily through Friday, February 3.

The special election is being held to fill the Post 5 city council seat Brendan Ansley left vacant when he resigned.

Candidates may qualify in person at the Habersham County Office of Elections and Voter Registration. The office is located in the county administration building at 120 Jacob’s Way in Clarkesville.

Qualifying hours are daily through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except for a one-hour lunch break, and from 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday.

The qualifying fee is $18.

All qualified candidates that live within the city limits of Clarkesville are encouraged to run.

The Post 5 seat will be elected at large for an unexpired term of approximately two years and nine months beginning on or about April 1, 2023.

The deadline to register to vote in the March 21 Special Election is Tuesday, February 21.
