Public input sought for Habersham’s Joint Comprehensive Plan

If you’d like to have a say in shaping the future of Habersham County, here’s your chance.

The Georgia Mountains Regional Commission (GMRC) is currently helping to update the Joint Comprehensive Plan for Habersham and the municipalities of Clarkesville, Alto, Demorest, and Mount Airy. This plan is a required document by the State that coordinates local work programs for the community.

The idea is to make sure that projects and policies for the community are developed with public input. The plan also ensures coordination between the local and state-level interests.

Several public hearings are planned. The first one on May 16 will provide an introduction to the document, the planning process, and how the comprehensive plan is used to guide community policies and programs. Then, in subsequent meetings, officials will discuss the needs and goals of the local governments and what can be done practically to prepare for the future.

In addition to the public forums, there’s also an online survey available. This survey is open now through June 30. Anyone with a vested interest in the area is welcome to respond. It’s a quick survey asking for thoughts on select issues and priorities for the community.

You can also find a link to the survey on the Habersham County website beginning May 10.

If you have questions about the comprehensive plan or the planning process, please contact Adam Hazell at the GMRC [email protected].

The public forum for the Habersham Joint Comprehensive Plan will be held on Tuesday, May 16, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Habersham County Courthouse, located at 295 Llewelyn Street in Clarkesville.
