fatal accident

A pregnant woman lost her baby after rear-ending a dump truck with her car, according to Athens-Clarke County police. She was 22 weeks pregnant.

The crash happened around 10:45 a.m. on August 20 in the 1000 block of Highway 29 southbound.

Police said the initial investigation revealed 25-year-old Abbigale Massey of Athens was seriously injured when the Kia Optima she was driving crashed into the rear of a dump truck and trailer that was turning into a private driveway. EMS transported Massey to the hospital in serious condition. Her unborn child passed away the following day due to injuries from the crash, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police Department (ACCPD) news release.

Massey is still in serious but stable condition, according to police. The driver of the dump truck, a 48-year-old man from Winder, was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Officer First Class Cameron at 762-400-7191 or email [email protected].
