Georgia Power crews have successfully restored power to all of the company’s customers in Demorest and Cornelia. Service was interrupted to more than 2,300 customers in Habersham County this morning after equipment failed inside a local control center. The failure left nearly a third of the utility company’s Habersham County customers in the dark for more than an hour.
The power went out at 10:41am according to Brian Green of Georgia Power’s media relations department who says, “It was an internal equipment failure inside a substation in Cornelia.” GA Power switched customers to other circuits as they worked to restore the failed equipment. Electricity was restored around 12:20pm.
Georgia Power has 7,671 customers in Habersham. The outage affected 2,344 of them.
