Power Outage in Baldwin and Cornelia

The lights are back on in Baldwin and Cornelia following a power outage that cut service to more than 1,000 Georgia Power and Habersham EMC customers on Thursday.

Brent Edwards with Georgia Power in Cornelia says a tree fell and knocked down two power poles. Crews were dispatched to the scene at BC Grant and Howard Ansley Road at 4:51 p.m. Thursday.

Pam Rushing was grocery shopping at Ingles in Cornelia when the lights went out. She shared her experience in this post to Now Habersham’s Facebook page:

“I was in Ingles(cornelia) with a cart full of stuff and….fade to black. Finished my shopping with a flashlight and was informed that it would be at least an hour before power was restored. *Sigh*..off to Ingles in Clarkesville.”

BC Grant Road remained blocked to all thru traffic between J. Warren Road and Duncan Bridge Road as crews replaced the broken poles. Power was fully restored by 10 p.m.
