Police warn of GA Power Scam

Helen Police are warning about a scam targeting Georgia Power customers.

According to an HPD scam alert, the scam starts with a person contacting you and advising that they’re with GA Power. They then threaten to cut off your electricity if you don’t immediately pay your bill. The scammer then gives you a phone number of 1-800-644-1410 ext.225 and advises you to speak with a ‘Mr. Cooper’.

“Once you call the number they advise they do not accept credit cards and the only form of payment accepted is MoneyPak. This is a SCAM!!!,” the alert says.

If you receive this type of phone call, hang up and immediately contact GA Power Residential Customer Service at 1-888-660-5890. DO NOT call the number you are given by the scammers.
