Police seek public’s help after Lavonia traffic stop takes unexpected turn

A routine traffic stop in Lavonia took an unexpected turn on Tuesday, April 15, when 24-year-old Jamarus Hardman allegedly fled from law enforcement after police discovered he had an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault out of Elbert County.

According to the Lavonia Police Department, Hardman was a passenger in a vehicle when it was pulled over by authorities. Officers allegedly observed Hardman not wearing a seatbelt, and upon running his information, authorities say they discovered the active warrant.

Hardman then allegedly fled the scene on foot and left behind a female companion, her child and even his footwear.

Despite assistance from the Hart County K-9 unit, officers were unable to locate him. Authorities encourage anyone with information of his whereabouts to contact the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office at 706-283-2421.
