The suspect sought for allegedly killing one man and wounding another over the weekend in Toccoa is now in custody.
Police say Brodrique Simone Dixon, 32, of Toccoa, turned himself in at the Toccoa Police Department Tuesday morning. The GBI processed him and officers booked him into the Stephens County jail where he awaits a first appearance and bond hearing.
Basketball bet may have led to fatal shooting
Dixon is charged with murder in the death of 30-year-old Christopher Tukes of Lavonia and aggravated assault on 34-year-old Scottae Martin of Toccoa. Police say both men were shot multiple times.
“It appeared the incident may have stemmed from a bet on a basketball game at another location and led to an altercation at the Whitman Street Park,” says Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize.
Police officers were dispatched to the park just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday, August 29, in response to 911 calls about the shooting. Tukes and Martin were at the park when officers arrived but the suspected shooter, later identified as Dixon, had already left the scene.
Police performed CPR on Tukes, says Chief Mize. He later died at Stephens County Hospital. EMS transported Martin to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville where he was treated and released.
The case is still under investigation. Detectives and agents ask anyone with information to please call the GBI Tip Line at 1-800-597-8477 or Toccoa Police Capt. Eddie Neal at 706-282-3236.
