Clarkesville Police are investigating a recent string of burglaries at Old Clarkesville Mill.
Someone reportedly broke into Int’l Die Company and M&P Enterprises twice in two days. The first time, the burglar(s) got away with an estimated $10,000 worth of tools and equipment. The second time, the owner/operator told police the perpetrator(s) made off with a “quantity of equipment”.
Investigators believe the first burglary occurred between 3:15 p.m. April 25 and 8:05 a.m. April 26. The second incident is believed to have occurred between 11 p.m. April 26 and 8 a.m. April 27.
On the evening of Friday, April 27, a maintenance worker at Old Clarkesville Mill told police he discovered a damaged exterior door leading to one of the building’s maintenance rooms. “Once inside the maintenance area, perpetrator(s) were able to force their way through a second door enabling them to gain access to various other businesses throughout the building,” a police press release states.
The burglar(s) gained access to a storage area at Initials Inc. “They are unsure what, if anything, was stolen from them,” says Clarkesville Police Chief Brad Barrett in reference to the home party planning business.
Investigators are still trying to determine exactly how many businesses were burglarized and what was taken.
“We still do not have a complete compiled list of everything taken,” he says. “They are finding things missing daily so that list continues to grow. We haven’t had any other victim’s come forward and report anything yet, so, I’m hoping those are the only ones that were hit.”
Burglarized before
This isn’t the first time burglars have struck at the sprawling, multi-use facility on Grant Street. Clarkesville Police arrested two people in March in connection with a burglary at the Antique Mall inside the mill. In that case, police were able to recover a number of stolen items.
Investigators ask anyone with knowledge about the latest break-ins to please contact them at the Clarkesville Police Department. The phone number is (706) 754-5390. Any information obtained will remain anonymous.
