Tenor Jonathan Pilkington and pianist Karen Sigers will present a recital 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 9 in the chapel at the college in Demorest. The performance is free and open to the public.
The recital features repertoire from Bach, Beethoven, Barber, Bizet, Britten, and Bernstein. Pilkington and Sigers will be joined by flautist Candace Keach and oboist Rebecca Testerman, as well as Washington Isaac Holmes. Holmes, normally a baritone, will join Pilkington in Bizet’s “Pearlfisher’s Duet” and will be singing the countertenor part in Benjamin Britten’s “Abraham and Isaac”.
“Not only am I excited to perform all of this music, along with several superb musicians, but I must admit that the letter “B” played a role in selecting the repertoire,” said Pilkington.
Pilkington has taught at Piedmont since 2009. With degrees from Shorter College, Westminster Choir College, and the University of Georgia, he performs frequently as a recitalist and oratorio soloist. He recently recorded an album with guitarist Nicolas Deuson, and they will soon embark on a concert tour of California, with local concerts being planned.
Sigers, an award-winning musician and assistant professor at Piedmont, has collaborated with Lynn Harrell, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Mark Morris, the Seattle Symphony, and many others. She has played at international venues including Alice Tully Hall, Hermitage Museum, the University of Taiwan, and St. Paul Sunday Morning, with recordings on Koch and ECM labels.
