Piedmont’s Stephens releases 2017 men’s soccer schedule

Head Men’s Soccer Coach Jimmy Stephens has released the 2017 schedule highlighted by nine home contests at Walker Athletic Complex.

The Lions finished the 2016 season with a winning record in Demorest at 6-4 when playing on the familiar turf at Walker Athletic Complex on the campus of Piedmont College. A deeper look into the Lions’ 2016 stats reveals top goal scorer CHASE KANE returns for his senior season while the leader in assists, JOSE LINARES, returns for his sophomore campaign.

Season Opener in Greenville
The Lions open the 2017 season on the road kicking off against Bob Jones University on September 2 at 7:00 p.m. This contest comes almost exactly a year after the Lions gave the Piedmont fans a show in Demorest against the Bruins. The contest extended into overtime as the Lions battled through the rain with it all coming down to a diving header in the final minute of overtime giving PC the edge in the opener.

USA South Streak
The month of October is covered with conference contests as the Lions end the season with six straight USA South games. PC plays host during half of these contests as LaGrange, Averett, and Ferrum all make the trip to Demorest. The Lions are on the road for the other three contest as they visit Greensboro, William Peace, and end the regular season against the Scots of Maryville.

Home Finale
Of the home contests in October, the final game for the Lions in Demorest is against the Panthers of Ferrum College on October 22 at 1 p.m. The Lions are 7-2-1 when playing the Panthers with the most recent game ending with a PC win in overtime last season. A late penalty kick goal by CHASE KANE would force the game to overtime where NATHAN METZGER headed in the game-winner off a corner kick in front of the home fans at Piedmont.
