Piedmont’s Kyle Ray earns USTFCCCA Indoor Track & Field All-Region honors

Sophomore pole vaulter KYLE RAY has been named to the 2017 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region team for the 2017 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field season.

To earn the honor, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to final TFRRS data or be part of a top-3 relay team.

Ray finished as the second best pole vaulter in the DIII South/SE Region clearing 4.55m (14’11”) at the Sewanee Tiger Indoor Invitational. That mark tied his personal best from the outdoor season in 2016 at the Falcon Classic at the University of Montevallo.

The sophomore from Albertville, Alabama was named a USTFCCCA All-Region selection for the 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field season. This is now his second All-Region honor in his three seasons (2016 Indoor & Outdoor and 2017 Indoor) with the Lions.

Ray also cleared a new personal best in his first outdoor meet of the 2017 season at the Victor Icebreaker Invitational setting a facility record clearing 4.63m (15’02.25″).

Ray & the Lions are back in action Saturday, March 11 at the Savannah State Tiger Orange & Blue Invitational.
