Piedmont’s ‘Cantabile’ delights audience

If you missed the Piedmont College Department of Music’s ‘Cantabile: Here and There,’ you missed an evening of angelic music beautifully produced. Those fortunate enough to have been there heard voices that blended far beyond belief. The ‘Cantabile’ performance was held in Piedmont College’s Brooks Hall on Tuesday, April 7, at 5 pm and the singers sang to a packed room filled with music lovers and supporters.

Mitchell Auger, Megan Holder, Kate Berardi, Cole Martin, Chastin Dobbs, Elizabeth Parmer, Albert Gerring, Jennifer Pitt and Ben Rikeman comprise the Piedmont College Cantabile. The group performs under the direction of Wallace Hinson.

The ensemble is made up of singers Mitchell Auger, Megan Holder, Kate Berardi, Cole Martin, Chastin Dobbs, Elizabeth Parmer, Albert Gerring, Jennifer Pitt, Wallace Hinson and Ben Rikeman. Dobbs, Rikeman, Pitt and Parmer are performing as this years group of seniors.

Pieces performed Tuesday included a variety of different time period styles; from Jacques Areadelt (1507-1568) to more modern groups such a Pentatonix. The ensemble performed accapella and kept their audience in awe.

The noteworthy selections that were sung were Il Bianco E Dolce Cigno (Jacques Arcadelt/ 1507-1568), Il est bel bon (Pierre Passareau / 1490-1547), Early Morning (Jeremy Jackman), Nae Luck About the House (Gordon Langford), When She Loved Me (Randy Newman), Killing Me Softly (Charles Fox), Run To You (Pentatonix), I’ll Follow the Sun (Lennon and McCartney), Penny Lane (Lennon and McCartney) and closing with If You’re Gonna Play in Texas (Paul Hurt).

The thirty-five minute performance was thoroughly entertaining: It was a musical delight speckled with moments of light-hearted fun and humor. If you’re a music lover and missed it, make sure to catch this group the next time they perform.
