The accolades continue to pour in for the Piedmont College cycling team with three more National Championships on the final day of Track Nationals at the Giordana Velodrome.
The Lions wrapped up competition this past Saturday after having laid claim to three National Championships on Friday with JESSICA PRINNER earning gold in the Points Race and the Individual Pursuit while ERICA ALLAR added the third with her gold in the Match Sprints.
Prinner and Allar’s efforts also put the Lady Lion pair in prime position in the overall standings as well, but the two were not yet finished as three more national titles would be taken home Saturday.
In the final Scratch Race showdown on Saturday night, Allar demonstrated the patience of an experienced veteran taking the gold handily in the event. This coming after the rider had already won gold and Piedmont’s fourth National Championship earlier in the day winning the Women’s 500 Meter Time Trial.
ERICA ALLAR‘s title in the Time Trial came close as she beat out the 2nd place rider in the final 125 meters. In both the events Allar’s title came in, her teammate JESSICA PRINNER finished 11th though she already had earned two National Championships herself the day prior.
Prinner and Allar also went 1-2 in the Omnium with ERICA ALLAR winning a National Championship finishing atop the standings with nearly 500 points while Prinner would take silver with 422 points.
Prinner distanced herself from the 3rd place spot by almost 50 points while the next five finishers behind her all finished within 50 points of each other.
Young riders DYLAN CANTRELL and ANDREW GUELZO showed well on the men’s side with Cantrell coming in 27th while Guelzo was 32nd. Cantrell, in his first-ever Collegiate Track Nationals, finished 18th while Guelzo came in 35th in their Individual Omnium.
