The 2016 fall Piedmont College women’s golf schedule has been announced by Head Coach Susan Martin as she begins her first season leading the Lady Lions on the links.
The schedule contains four tournaments in the fall with familiar locations and opponents ahead for Piedmont.
The season opener comes at the ‘Southern Shootout in Birmingham, Alabama on September 11-12 at the Highland Park Golf Course. This will mark the third straight season the Lady Lions have participated in the event hosted by Birmingham Southern College. Alabama’s Highland Park Golf Course was originally established in 1903 as the Country Club of Birmingham, making it the oldest golf course in Alabama.
Another familiar event will be the Montgomery Country Club Invitational at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama on September 25-26. The Lady Lions finished eighth overall at the event a season ago with veteran ASHTON MAMULA leading the team. The Lady Lions have competed in this event for the past three seasons including winning the event in 2013.
The marquee tournament of the fall comes October 9-11 in Sandestin, Florida as Piedmont will compete in the Golfweek NCAA Division III Fall Preview. The tournament is at Baytowne Country Club which has twice been hailed by Golf Digest as one of the “Best Places to Play” with 4 1/2 stars. Piedmont competed in the event last season after a hiatus since the 2013 season.
The lone event in the state of Georgia will wrap up the fall schedule as Piedmont travels to Rome, Georgia to compete in the Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Invitational hosted by Berry College. The tournament will be October 24-25 at Stonebridge Golf Course, a different course from last season’s event where the Lady Lions finished in a tie for sixth overall.
The spring schedule will be announced at a later date with information available on PiedmontLions.com. It all starts with the ‘Southern Shootout beginning on September 11 as Piedmont begins the Susan Martin era in Birmingham, Alabama.
