“Don’t judge a man until you’ve walked two moons in his moccasins” is the proverb that inspired the title of Piedmont University Theatre’s next production. Based on the bestselling Newbery Medal-winning novel by Sharon Creech, Walk Two Moons is a story of abandonment, grief, and identity.
Fifteen-year-old Sal’s mother left over a year ago. When her friend Phoebe’s mom disappears, painful memories of Sal’s own abandonment come to the surface. Determined to find Phoebe’s mother, the girls begin seeing murderous plots and schemes around every corner. Sal shares these conspiracy theories with her Gram and Gramps during a cross-country trip to confront her mother. But it is only through the telling of her friend’s tale that Sal ultimately realizes things—and people—are not always what they seem.
“Sal, played compassionately by freshman Carly Jelnick, places herself in the shoes of several other characters during the play and becomes more compassionate and understanding as a result. Imagine how different the world would be if we all did that!” exclaims Kathy Blandin, Director. She also notes that this play is appropriate for audiences 12 years of age and older.
The Piedmont University Theatre has implemented strict health procedures to keep everyone safe while in the Theatre. Everyone entering the Swanson Center for this production must wear a face covering at all times while in the building. Hand sanitizer stations will be available and all patrons are required to maintain social distancing. By working together, we can keep everyone safe and healthy as we return to the theatre to once again enjoy live performance.
