Need help for the upcoming tax filing deadline? Piedmont University could have you covered.
For a second consecutive year, Piedmont University accounting students will provide federal and state income tax preparation services to community members in Habersham and Banks counties at no cost.
The initiative, as part of the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, is being done in collaboration with Walker College of Business Professor Jay Long and the local University of Georgia Extension Family and Consumer Sciences coordinator, Susie Burton Medina, to offer the service.
“Last year’s VITA students were able to double the number of returns prepared for individuals in Habersham and Banks County, and we are excited for even more growth during the second year of the program,” Long said.
To become eligible for this opportunity, student volunteers completed the IRS’s comprehensive VITA training and certification process, along with Professor Long’s individual income tax course.
Appointments for tax preparation are available in Demorest, Clarkesville, and Homer. To schedule an appointment, call 706-677-6230 or 706-395-8069. If an available student volunteer is present, meetings can be held on-campus in the Swanson Center.
Tax preparation appointments will be available through the filing deadline of April 15. For further information, email Susie Burton Medina at [email protected].
