Piedmont Student-Athletes Put in Strong Showing in Classroom

With the fall semester now complete, the Piedmont College Department of Athletics is only halfway through the 2016-17 academic year and already has put on quite the show, both on the field and in the classroom.

Capping a fall that saw Piedmont lay claim to three of the five available USA South Championships putting itself in contention for the President’s Cup again, the student-athletes wearing the Green and Gold have also performed at a high level with pen and paper.

Of the nearly 300 student-athletes at PC, close to two thirds carried a GPA above a 3.0 this fall semester with 35 of those posting a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Additionally, 41 student-athletes carried a GPA between 3.75 and 3.99 with 48 more sitting between 3.50 and 3.74.

When the AD Honor Roll is released later this month, the Department of Athletics will likely have one of its highest such number honored on the listing which recognizes those with a 3.40 semester GPA or better.

Additionally, Piedmont picked up its ninth CoSIDA Academic All-American honoree this fall with Savannah Castles of the women’s soccer team earning the 1st Team status on the prestigious list.

“We are extremely proud of the academic achievement of our student-athletes,” saying Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jim Peeples.  “Our goal as a department is to teach and encourage our student-athletes to excel in every aspect of their life during their time at Piedmont College. I’m happy to see that we are on the path towards graduating young people who are prepared to lead and be successful in all areas of their life.”
