As COVID-19 cases climb in Georgia, Piedmont University has updated its COVID-19 protocol to reinstate mandatory mask use in all indoor areas on campus. The university updated its COVID-19 policy in May to allow fully vaccinated individuals to go maskless on campus, but have reverted back as of Aug. 26.

“As we battle the highly transmissible Delta variant, it is important that we closely follow the university’s COVID protocols,” says Piedmont University President James Mellichamp in an email to the student body. “We must all work together to keep our university operating safely.”

Piedmont continues to encourage all students to get vaccinated against COVID-19 but does not require it. Unvaccinated students, faculty, and staff must wear a mask at all times on campus, regardless of if they are indoors or outdoors. The university continues to require students to participate in a daily pre-screening check on the school’s app, during which students answer a questionnaire regarding COVID-19 symptoms before they can enter campus.

“Thank you for all you are doing to protect yourself and your fellow Lions during the ongoing pandemic,” Mellichamp goes on to say. “COVID has posed many new challenges, and I continue to be exceedingly proud of Piedmont’s response.”

The university posts COVID-19 updates, information and protocol to their website here.
