The cardiac kids were at it again Sunday night as ANDREW BURDEN hit another game winner for a walk-off victory over #6 Birmingham-Southern 4-3. The Lions trailed 3-0 after three innings but scored a run in each inning beginning in the sixth.
RILEY PRESNELL earned the start for PC, his first of 2017, allowing three runs over his six innings pitched. Presnell surrendered a run in the first and a pair in the third, but tossed three clean innings following that, facing just 11 batters over the 4th-6th innings.
The Panthers scored their first run after a leadoff double by Scott to start the game and he was driven in by a sac fly. BSC then scored two runs on two hits in the third inning but Presnell limited the damage leaving a pair on the bases as the final out came on a play at the plate when a runner was caught stealing.
Piedmont had just two hits in the game until the bottom of the sixth when Ballstadt led off with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and would later score on an error to make it 3-1. The Lions would tack on another run in the bottom of the seventh after NATHAN HOLT doubled with two outs and was sent home on a WES SNYDER single making it 3-2.
The tying run came across in the eighth as JONATHEN BURKETT doubled to score ANDREW BURDEN making it three-all and giving the Lions a chance in the bottom of the ninth. SETH GEORGE was stellar Sunday as he tossed three innings in relief without giving up a single hit allowing one walk and facing just nine batters.
WES SNYDER walked to start the ninth inning for Piedmont and an error kept him on second with TYLER BURDETTE aboard on a fielder’s choice with one out. With runners on the corners and two outs after GRIFFIN OLSON reached on a fielder’s choice, ANDREW BURDEN singled to win the game and send the Lions onto the diamond for the second time in three games to celebrate a walk off victory.
