A gala event to celebrate the official opening for the Conservatory of Music at Piedmont College was held for donors on November 24.
The evening included performances by the Piedmont Singers, Piedmont President James F. Mellichamp (piano), Jeri-Mae Astolfi (piano), Andrea M. Price (soprano), Karen Singers (piano) and students Kristen Ellison (soprano) and Tyler Vandiver (tenor).
The special evening began with a champagne reception in the Conservatory’s grand foyer and was followed by a reception at the President’s home.
Special guests included college trustees and representatives from the Conservatory architects, Beck Design, builders, Juneau Construction, and Steinway & Sons pianos.
The $10.1 million facility, located adjacent to the Chapel on Central Avenue, includes 26 Steinway pianos. The hand-crafted instruments, widely considered the finest in the world, are synonymous with prestige and quality.
More than 200 students – about 15 percent of Piedmont’s undergraduate population – participate in music academic programs, ensembles, and performances. The Conservatory of Music, a 45,000 square foot instruction and performance complex, is an All-Steinway School.
