Freshmen Madison Garrett of Blairsville; Rowan Bumpass of Dallas, Texas; Johnny Lozano of Baldwin; and Caity Williams of Commerce glaze bowls for the upcoming Empty Bowls dinner.
Members of the Piedmont College freshman class are again volunteering their time and artistic talents for the eighth annual “Empty Bowls” event to fight hunger. Proceeds from the event will go to The Lord’s Help Soup Kitchen in Cornelia.
At 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, in the Piedmont College Swanson Center, students will be serving soup and bread in hand-crafted bowls. For a $15 donation, diners can pick out a bowl to keep and enjoy a simple supper donated by El Jinete Mexican Restaurant and Fender’s Diner.
Entertainment will be provided by Cantabile, the student a cappella ensemble, and Shticks and Giggles, a student improv troupe. Participants can also purchase raffle tickets for stoneware created by Chris Kelly, chair of the Art Department at Piedmont.
Tickets can be purchased at the door, but space is limited. Advance tickets are available at www.piedmont.edu/empty-bowls. For more information about the Empty Bowls international program, visit emptybowls.net.
The service project is part of Piedmont’s “Intro to College” course that introduces freshmen students to college and the surrounding community.
