Danville, VA – In their second USA South contest of the weekend, the Piedmont College women’s soccer team used a goal in the first half and another in the second to overtake Averett University 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The shutout win is Piedmont’s 8th clean sheet in nine games this season as the Lady Lions continue one of their best starts to a season now in overall program history.
In the first half, the Lady Lions got on the board with a penalty kick converted by junior MORGAN EDELMAN in the 30th minute of play. Edelman’s PK gives her a 3rd goal of the season for the midfielder from Covington, Georgia.
After 45 minutes, Averett came out on fire in the second half but the Cougars cooled when Piedmont picked up a second goal in the 67th minute. This time, it was midfielder JAZMIN PENADO who scored a Piedmont set piece slotting away a free kick from just at the top of the box to solidify the 2-nil victory for the Lady Lions on the road.
