Directed by Dr. Kathy Blandin, with musical direction by Brandon Nonnemaker, the Piedmont production is heavily influenced by the culture and aesthetic of 1960s America. “Dr. Seuss was in his den writing the books that changed children’s literature forever during the tumultuous 1960s. Outside his window, the U.S. was changing. People were protesting against war, inequality and social injustice. Seuss became a part of the ‘hippie generation’ by advocating for peace, love and harmony in his stories. Our production will pay homage to this fact by drawing upon the psychedelic art movement and pop culture icons of the times,” Blandin said.
