The Piedmont College Theatre will present the much-acclaimed Crimes of the Heart November 15-18.
Written by Beth Henley, the 1981 Pulitzer Prize-winning tragicomedy tells the story of the three Magrath sisters who have reunited in Hazlehurst, Mississippi to bid farewell to their grandfather as he lives out his last hours in the local hospital. The play, heartbreaking and hilarious, will stay with you long after you leave the theatre.
Theater Arts Professor John Spiegel, who promises a subtle and refreshing update to this emotional work, directs Crimes of the Heart.
“[This show] is the classic Beth Henley comedy/drama filled with quirky, off-the-cuff characters we can all find relatable,” he said. “The story focuses on the sisters’ relationships with not only each other, but with their town, and love itself. We’re moving our production to now: a few years after [Hurricane] Katrina as opposed to a few years after Camille to showcase the true universality of the story.”
Performances of Crimes of the Heart are 7:30 p.m., November 15-17 and 2 p.m., November 18 in the Swanson Center Black Box Theatre. General Admission tickets are $5, while Piedmont faculty, students, and staff can attend for free.
