The Piedmont College cycling team has some new wheels—of the motor-powered kind.
Springer Mountain Farms® of northeast Georgia recently donated a brand new Ford Transit van to Piedmont to transport the cycling team and their bikes to competitions around the country.
Cycling Coach Jame Carney said the oversize van will make it much easier for the team to get to cycling meets. “It’s a necessity to get from point A to point B with the team, their bikes, and equipment,” Carney said. “And we’ll be traveling almost every weekend this semester. It’s great that Springer Mountain Farms® hooked us up because we’ll get a lot of mileage out of this van.”
Piedmont President James F. Mellichamp thanked Gus Arrendale, President of Springer Mountain Farms® for the donation to the college. “Piedmont is the first college in the state to offer cycling as a varsity sport,” said Mellichamp. “This incredible van will get them off to a great start as they begin competing this fall.”
Arrendale commented, “Cycling helps maintain a healthy lifestyle just as Springer Mountain Farms® chicken helps maintain a healthy diet, so it was only fitting to put the two together.”
