Piedmont art show features co-authored works

‘Delay 6’ is just one of the ‘Delays and Interruptions’ on display at Piedmont College’s Smith-Williams Art Studios Gallery.

Collaborative artwork, “Delays and Interruptions,” by Piedmont College assistant professor of art Brian Hitselberger and Tennessee-based artist Jessie Van der Laan, will be featured at Piedmont’s Smith-Williams Art Studios gallery through March 3.

The gallery is located on the ground floor of the Smith-Williams Studios at 568 Laurel Avenue on the Demorest campus. Hours are 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and admission to the exhibition is free.

The exhibition of works on paper includes a series of collaborative drawings created by the artists over a period of several years. Each artist created a series of drawings, which were mailed to the other, who created the other half. “The title, ‘Delays and Interruptions,’ certainly refers to this series of communication and the span of time between our meeting and completion of this project, in which we each took on new professional and personal challenges, including new jobs, solo shows, and parenthood,” Hitselberger said. “Each pair creates an intersecting reverie grown from one another’s daydream.”
