A 48-year old Lakemont man is dead after crashing a pickup truck on Burton Dam Road. Richard Todd Erlewine was killed in a wreck in Rabun County on Wednesday afternoon.
Erlewine was traveling east in a 2014 Ford Super Duty when the accident happened, according to the Georgia State Patrol. A witness told authorities Erlewine was passing two vehicles in a no passing zone when he rounded a curve and failed to maintain his lane.
The State Patrol reports the pickup ran off the road then traveled down a steep embankment and struck several large trees before stopping. Erlewine was fatally injured. No other injuries were reported.
Burton Dam Road near the scene of the accident was closed for several hours as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
