After the FDA approved the Pfizer COVID-19 booster shot for specific high-risk individuals and the CDC recommended the booster for individuals working in high-risk environments, District 2 Public Health is reopening mass vaccination sites around the region.
The booster shot is not required, but it can provide extra protection for individuals at high risk for infection in the coming months, especially with the threat of the more contagious COVID-19 Delta variant.
“It is important to note, COVID-19 vaccines are working well to prevent severe illness, hospitalization and death,” D2PH says. “But with the introduction of the Delta variant, public health experts noticed a reduction of protections against mild and moderate disease.”
Currently, the booster shot is only approved for those who received the Pfizer vaccine at least six months ago.
According to a press release from D2PH, the following counties will offer all doses of the Pfizer vaccine, and will have first dose Moderna and Johnson and Johnson vaccines available upon request, starting Monday, Sept. 27:

Lumpkin, Rabun and Union Counties will continue offering COVID-19 vaccines at the health departments until demand requires a move to a larger location.
All Health Departments will be vaccinating every other Saturday. Hall and Forsyth health departments will be vaccinating every Saturday starting October 2.
