PetCo awards HABCO Animal Care & Control vaccine grant

Habersham County Animal Care & Control provided 1,600 free vaccinations for Habersham County area pets in February and March of 2022. The free vaccines were made possible through Petco Love’s new national vaccination initiative, which provided 1 million free pet vaccines to its existing animal welfare partners, including HCACC, for family pets in need.

Vaccines distributed through the Petco Love initiative were the DAPPv Canine and HCP Feline vaccines.

Parvovirus and distemper in dogs, and panleukopenia in cats, are some of the most prevalent deadly diseases impacting pets that are preventable with a simple vaccine.

“An estimated 30% of pet parents do not take their pet to a veterinarian annually for preventative care. To address this critical need, HCACC and Petco Love are partnered to make pet vaccines free and accessible in an effort to ensure the health and wellness of our beloved pets,” a press release from HCACC Director Madi Nix states.

HCACC initially had a goal of distributing 1,000 vaccines to area pets- but surpassed that goal by 600 additional free vaccines. Vaccines were distributed in 15-minute appointments intervals, available anytime the shelter was open.

PetCo Love awarded Habersham County Animal Care & Control a $3 Grant Stipend for each vaccine distributed to community pets, resulting in a total grant of $4,800.

“HCACC is grateful to have the opportunity to partner with PetCo Love and provide free lifesaving resources to our community,” says Nix.
