Peer support group: Food for body and soul

It has been a tough few weeks for emergency personnel in Habersham County and its municipalities as they have responded to numerous tragedies, several involving children.

While emergency responders generally do not show it, tragedies also impact them – especially incidents such as Sunday’s wreck that claimed the lives of two children and three adults and Saturday’s serious-injury wreck that injured seven people.

Tuesday night, about 20 personnel from Habersham County Emergency Services, the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, Habersham County E-911, Baldwin, and Cornelia voluntarily attended a peer support meeting.

Peer support allows responders an opportunity to share their experiences in a trusted and confidential setting, where they can support and encourage each other.

Food for the peer support meeting was donated by Chick-fil-A, Sugartopia, Dottie’s Kitchen, Zaxby’s in Clarkesville, and Chicago’s Pizza.

“We are very blessed to have the community support, thoughts, and prayers for our folks,” said Habersham County Emergency Services Director/Chief Jeff Adams.

Habersham County has several peer team members who are trained to assist other emergency personnel in coping with difficult situations.
