Pedestrians taken to hospital after being hit by SUV

Two pedestrians were injured Tuesday morning when they were hit by a vehicle in the parking lot outside a Cleveland restaurant.

Cleveland Police Chief Jeff Shoemaker says the pedestrians were crossing the parking lot to go into the Sunflower Restaurant. Before they reached the sidewalk, a small SUV struck both of them.

Chief Shoemaker said both pedestrians, who were not identified, were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

The driver of the SUV stated that the sun was in her eyes, and she was distracted by a younger child in the vehicle.

Chief Shoemaker says the driver was not charged.
