Pedestrian struck, killed in Athens

Athens-Clarke County police are investigating an accident that claimed the life of a Northeast Georgia man.

At approximately 6:25 p.m. on December 14, officers responded to the area of Cleveland Road and Hanover Drive for a crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian. The initial investigation indicates that the pedestrian was walking north in the northbound lane of Cleveland Road. A Toyota Sequoia was traveling in the same direction and struck the man, says Athens-Clarke County Police Department Public Information Officer Lt. Shaun Barnett.

The pedestrian, a 44-year-old man from Bogart, Georgia, was transported by EMS to an Athens area hospital, where he died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The crash investigation is ongoing. This is the 11th fatal motor vehicle crash of 2022 in Athens-Clarke County.
