The Georgia State Patrol has identified the pedestrian who was struck by a van and seriously injured Thursday morning in Cornelia as Mark Shepard of Marietta.
Troopers say the 23-year-old Shepard did not have a wallet on him. They were unable to identify him at the scene.
The incident happened just before 10 a.m. on August 10 on GA 385 at Midway Crossing. Troopers say the Shepard stepped out into the roadway. A northbound Honda Odyssey van hit him.
Shepard was so badly injured, EMS called in an AirLife helicopter to transport him to the hospital. However, the weather was too bad to fly him to Gainesville. The flight crew, instead, assisted in the ambulance on the way there to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
The van driver, 64-year-old Willard England, was not injured in the incident. No charges were filed against him.
