Pedestrian struck and killed in White County

It’s been a deadly holiday weekend on Georgia’s roads, and not just for motorists. A pickup truck struck and killed a pedestrian Saturday as she crossed State Route 75 south of Tom Bell Road in White County.

Rosa Alba Perez, 63, of Gainesville, died at the scene.

According to Cpl. Bronson Taylor of Georgia State Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville, Perez was walking east across the highway, not in a crosswalk, when a northbound Nissan Frontier hit her.

Katlyn Faith Mooney, 30, of Gainesville, was driving the truck. She told troopers that after an SUV passed her in the southbound lane, she observed the pedestrian and swerved to miss her. The pedestrian, later identified as Perez, went in the same direction to avoid the vehicle.

The front of the pickup struck Perez and continued to the left into the oncoming lane of travel. The truck came to a controlled rest on the southbound shoulder of State Route 75.

Authorities notified Perez’s family, and her body was transported to the White County Coroner’s Office.

“Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be a factor in the crash,” says Taylor. No charges are pending.
