To get a fire going…
If you’ve ever built a fire, you know how great it feels when that first spark appears. As you fan the flames, the fire grows. Before long, its warmth envelops you. The same is true of human compassion. The more compassion you show, the more warmth and goodness you spread and the more lives you can positively impact and change.
Ever since Now Habersham’s name first flashed across your computer screens, it’s been our desire to do more than just keep you informed about community matters. We want to connect you with your community in ways that exhibit our firmly held belief that community does matter. That’s why we’re thrilled to partner with McDonalds of Clarkesville & Cornelia to launch a one-of-a-kind community compassion campaign called Pass It On!
Inspired by a familiar song from the ’70s and ’80s, Pass It On is about combining our individual gifts, talents and skills to bring our community together in meaningful, day-altering, life-changing ways.
What can one person do?
Ask yourself that question and you might say, “Not much,” but you’d be wrong. Compassion reveals itself in big and small ways. Sometimes the simplest of gestures can change someone’s outlook on life.
The other day the line at Cornelia McDonald’s Drive-Thru stretched around the building. Slow service? No. Hungry people? Most likely. Something different? You BET! A lady started a movement, paying for the car behind her. It happens. Maybe you’ve experienced it before. Her act of kindness sparked a reaction. Some 35 cars later, people joyfully participated in picking up the bill for the car behind them. The lady who started it probably never intended for such to occur; but, her spark lit a flame which brightened people’s lives.
That same spark lies within each of us – within reach of us – every day.
We can do so much more together
There are times in our lives when we need help and times when we can offer a helping hand. Through our partnership with McDonalds of Clarkesville & Cornelia, Now Habersham is able to provide a unique platform through which our community can share and meet each other’s needs.
Here’s how it works:
First, locate the Pass It On portal at the top of each page or in our Faith section here at nowhabersham.com. Then, if you have a need, just click “Submit A Need” and follow the on-screen instructions.
Maybe you need dental work but can’t afford it. Maybe your automobile needs tires but you’ve lost your job. Maybe your child needs school supplies but you can barely keep food on the table. Maybe you’re elderly and need help with yard work. Whatever the need, it’s our belief there’s someone in our community who’s willing and able to help meet it.
Similarly, if you’d like to help someone, just click “Meet A Need” and follow the on-screen prompts.
You may sign up to meet select needs as an individual or business or feel free to recruit your family and friends, church and civic groups to assist you.
Our hope and prayer is that this will launch within our community – in a way that’s never been done before – a perpetual cycle of giving so that those who receive help will pass it on and offer their help to others.
Alone we’re but a spark, but together we can ignite a fire that will light up Habersham County in lasting and powerful ways.
