Panthers Pull Away From Lions

Ferrum, VA – The Piedmont College men’s lacrosse team fell in a road decision at Ferrum College earlier today by a 15-3 score line as the Panthers pulled away with a 6-goal 4th quarter.

The Lions have dropped four straight decisions now after a March 10 win over the University of Dallas at home with two of those four losses coming away from the friendly confines at Walker Athletic Complex.  Ferrum opened the scoring on the day with a goal from Tyler Paries two minutes into the first period.

Piedmont cut a 2-0 lead by Ferrum in half before the end of the first through Patrick Ammons with only 34 seconds remaining in the period to head into the second period trailing by a single score.  However, Ferrum would outscore the Lions by four in the second shutting out the visitors, the only period that PC would not score in on the day.

Two of Ferrum’s second quarter goals were scored within ten seconds with the first coming as 12:34 remained in the period as the Panthers’ Ethan Wakefield accounted for three assists in the stretch.

Trailing 6-1 at the break, Piedmont saw Ferrum make it a 7-1 game with a Chase Tallon goal at the 6:04 mark of the third.  Piedmont would get one goal back as Branson Mikell found the back of the net with 3:39 remaining in the third on a man-up opportunity.

PC was 1-for-5 in man-up situations with Mikell’s goal representing the lone such score.  However, the Lions held Ferrum to 0-for-5 in man-up goals with all 15 of the Panthers’ scores coming at even strength.

Three Ferrum scores in the third made it a 9-2 game with the Lions trailing heading into the fourth where Piedmont got their third and final goal from Taylor Carter with 5:59 remaining in the contest.  However, six scores from Ferrum in the 4th set the two apart even further with the Panthers taking a 15-3 win over the Lions.

Mick Baker got the decision in goal for the Lions today making 21 saves through 55:25 of play while Josh Parris finished out the contest in goal.  Ferrum outshot the Lions 57 to 22 as the Panthers put 36 on frame while also forcing PC into 17 turnovers on the day.

The 11 different goal scorers for Ferrum hands Piedmont its 7th loss bringing its overall record to 3-7 now in 2015. The Lions take the field at home in their next contest to face Berry College on March 24 with the opening face off at 5:00 pm ET.
