Driver charged in tractor-trailer wreck in Tallulah Falls

The State Patrol has charged a truck driver in connection with a wreck that temporarily shutdown traffic on GA 15/U.S. 441 in Tallulah Falls Monday.

60-year-old Manuel Volcan of Miami, Florida, was driving a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer south on GA 15 when the rig overturned in a curve. It came to an uncontrolled stop in the middle of the road, blocking all but one lane of traffic.

Emergency responders from Rabun County reported the trailer was loaded with cotton. They said it was also leaking fuel.

Traffic was detoured for more than an hour as crews worked to clear the scene.

Volcan was taken to Habersham Medical Center with suspected injuries. The Georgia State Patrol charged him with driving too fast for conditions and failure to maintain lane.

This is the second time in three months that a tractor-trailer has overturned in that location. A similar wreck in July 2017 injured three people.
