A Habersham County man is in jail facing numerous drug charges after law enforcement seized hundreds-of-thousands of dollars worth of illegal narcotics from his home.
It all happened because of a 911 hang up call on Independence Day.
Habersham County deputies responded to the call at 2721 Alec Mountain Road on July 4th. When they arrived they saw 35-year-old Nicholas Green at the back door of the residence. Green “slammed the door shut”, according to a news release. Deputies investigated further and found “numerous marijuana plants.”
The Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) executed a search warrant. “Habersham authorities found 25 marijuana plants just inside the back door along with 23 half gallon mason jars full of marijuana and one half gallon mason jar full of mushrooms,” according to ARDEO Special Agent in Charge Mitchell Posey
The street value of the illegal narcotics is $408,600.
Posey says Green, who had just recently moved into the house, had supplies used in a marijuana grow operation in a box beside the plants.
In addition to the drugs, officials seized $660 in cash, multiple rifles, a 12 gauge shotgun, and a .22 caliber handgun.
Green was arrested and transported to the Habersham County Detention Center.
He’s charged with trafficking marijuana, manufacturing marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule I narcotic (mushroom) and obstructing or hindering law enforcement officers.
Posey says Green also will be charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
