Online Fundraiser for Family Struck by Fire and Accident

Community rallies to help Robin Miller and her children in their time of need

Robin Miller and her two children, 22-year old Emory and 19-year old Jack, lost all of their belongings in a devastating house fire on February 28, 2016. Robin was home when the fire broke out and was able to escape through a window, but the family’s 110-year old house on Highway 197 North in Clarkesville was destroyed.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says investigators were unable to determine the cause of the fire because of the extensive damage to the home. Spokesman Glenn Allen says, “The fire is not suspicious and has been ruled undetermined.”

Unfortunately, the Miller’s misfortune didn’t end there.

Just two days after the fire, Robin suffered a brain injury when she and her daughter were involved in a car accident that totaled her car. She’s now receiving medical attention and physical therapy and, according to family friends, is slowly improving.

Robin Miller is a first grade teacher at Banks County Primary School but has been unable to work since the accident. She’s now staying with a friend while her kids are staying with their grandmother. Robin says, “We are very fortunate to have the family and friends that we do who have opened their homes for us to stay and feel safe while we piece our lives back together.”

The community is rallying around the Millers to help them rebuild.

Tracy Allison, a friend and fellow educator, has launched an online fundraising campaign for the Millers at RedBasket.org, a nonprofit crowdfunding website supported by Woodmen of the World. The fundraising goal is $20,000. In the first five days $545 was raised. Allison is now appealing to the community to help get the word out and get the family the help that they need.
