
A structure fire in Maysville on Sunday destroyed a home and left one person injured, according to the Banks County Fire Department.
Authorities say the structure fire broke out Sunday, Feb. 16 at just before 2 p.m. at a single-family residence located at 142 Highway 323.
Neighbors reported hearing multiple explosions as the fire spread throughout the home. Upon arrival, first responders found the residence fully engulfed in flames as fire crews launched a defensive attack to contain the fire.
A male victim was discovered in the yard with severe second and third degree burns on 25% of his body, according to officials. Emergency medical personnel treated the victim on-site before they transported him by ambulance to Grady Hospital in Atlanta for specialized burn care.
The blaze resulted in a total loss of the home, and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Banks County Fire Department.
No additional injuries were reported.
