
A man is facing multiple drug trafficking charges after an extensive investigation in Gilmer County, according to the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office.
James Calvin Sluder Jr., 49, was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 26 after a two-month investigation by the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office, the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office and the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force.
The investigation culminated in the execution of arrest warrants for Sluder, followed by a search of his residence on Quarles Lane. There, authorities allegedly seized 5.6 ounces of methamphetamine, packaged for distribution, and 1.8 pounds of marijuana.
A “ghost gun,” a fully-automatic AR-15-style rifle equipped with a sound suppressor, also was allegedly discovered during the search.
Sluder faces charges of felon in possession of a firearm, trafficking in methamphetamine (four counts), possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of illegal firearm/parts (two counts).
