Four locals took to the hardwood Tuesday night in the Quarterfinals…two move on to the Final Four!
Lumpkin County 64, Pierce County 55 (Girls)
After trailing 15-10 after the first, the Lady Indians (25-4) rallied back to take a 32-30 lead at the half. That went back in favor of Pierce County at 44-41 heading into the fourth. However, the Lady Indians outscored Pierce 20-14 in the final quarter to hang on to the 64-55 win and reach their first-ever Final Four.
Towns County 61, Irwin County 54 (Boys)
The Indians (23-3) kept their dream season alive and took down Irwin County 61-54. Towns led 17-14 after one and spread that to 31-21 at the break. The lead dwindled just a little down to 48-41 after the third quarter, and an 11-point lead in the fourth was nearly erased before the Indians put the game away at the line with a 61-54 win. This is the program’s first-ever Final Four run.
In other quarterfinals action, the girls’ teams from Jefferson and Stephens County dropped close ones Tuesday night. Jefferson lost by one point. For those scores and game wrapups, click here.
