Habersham County officials are asking residents to stay off the roads and to only call 911 in the event of an emergency.

“We are experiencing high volumes of (call) traffic due to the roads with accidents and people reporting ice,” says Habersham County E-911 Director Lynn Smith. She says officials are aware of the ice on the roads and asks the public to please not call 911 unless you are reporting an accident or some other emergency.

GDOT: Don’t expect to return to normal driving conditions today

Local road crews and the Georgia Department of Transportation are treating the roads with brine and gravel, but conditions remain hazardous. Public safety officials urge you to stay home if possible.
