NFL Owners voted on Tuesday afternoon to grant Atlanta the right to host the 2019 Super Bowl LIII, marking the first time since 2000 when the St. Louis Rams defeated the Tennessee Titans in Super Bowl XXXIV.
The Atlanta Falcons’ new Mercedes Benz Stadium will be the host site for the Super Bowl in February 2019. Atlanta was one of four bidders for the 2019 game, with the city winning on the owners’ fourth ballot. Miami and Tampa were in the mix, but after the first two ballots it was down to Atlanta or New Orleans.
Neither could win on the third ballot with a 75% majority vote, but Atlanta won by simple majority on the fourth ballot.
It was also voted on to award South Florida to host the Super Bowl in 2020 and Los Angeles to host in 2021.
