Now Habersham on the street – reporting

It is the day after – the day after the polls closed on Tuesday, November 5. Some of us went to bed wondering what happened. Some of us stayed up until we knew.  As we all take in the results and digest the news of the election, Now Habersham hit the street to find out just what our readers were thinking.

While I imagined myself on the busy streets of New York, microphone in hand, a camera guy with headphones and equipment lurking behind me, I found myself armed with an I-phone, tennis shoes, and a watermelon lollipop between my cheeks. (I didn’t have time to eat breakfast).

The question fluttering in the air, around the street corners, and crossing through the parking lots was, “How are you feeling about the election?”

Katie, 34, (exiting StarBucks)said, “I woke up this morning and felt like the weight of the world had been lifted off me. I feel like I can pay my bills again.”

Alex, 26, (Demorest Post Office) felt the same way. “President Trump will be good for the housing market and will lower grocery costs. I can barely make it right now.”

Jill Smith, (recently moved from Illinois), “I don’t feel that Donald Trump is much of a diplomat. I don’t like him because I think he likes to hurt people. He creates chaos all around him. He puts out false information.”

Cam, 25, (works in service industry), “Relieved!”

That word – relieved – continued to be the word as I followed couples into Lowes; sat down with some at Burger King; and chatted with a few getting a pedicure.

“We aren’t hearing enough about it in the media,” said one 42-year-old female who did not want her name mentioned. “This was a huge victory and little is being said about it.”

Dale Green said he felt great today. “I wasn’t worried because I was confident he was going to win. I think there are more people who want things to be normal and natural and pleasing to God.”

Tammie and Mark were leaving Longhorns after a shopping trip to Lowes. “We feel excellent. We were a little worried at the beginning but when Georgia came through we felt great!”

Tonya said she was just glad it was over. “I really didn’t care who won. I was just glad it is all done. My life is the same no matter who is president.”

“Let’s see where it goes,” said a gentleman at Jersey Mikes in Cornelia.  “I’m a retired veterans. I served 25 years and for me the president’s job is to do their job. There is positive and negative to each president. They can only do so much.”
